I served as a senior technical lead within the Zillow Premier Agent division—Zillow Group’s primary revenue engine—responsible for over $760M in annual revenue (2017) and contributing approximately 70% of total group revenue. In this role, I worked at the intersection of high-scale consumer demand, agent monetization, and real-time communications, delivering systems that directly impacted revenue growth and agent retention.

Real-Time Communications Microservices Architecture

I architected and delivered real-time communication microservices enabling high-volume voice and SMS interactions between home buyers and real estate agents.

Key technical elements included: • Microservices implemented in PHP and C#, optimized for low-latency, high-throughput workloads • AWS-based infrastructure supporting horizontal scaling and fault tolerance • Real-time message routing and session management for millions of monthly interactions • Integration with third-party telephony and SMS providers • Resilience patterns to handle traffic spikes driven by consumer demand and marketing campaigns

These services formed the backbone of Zillow’s live agent engagement experience.

Concierge Lead Qualification Platform

I played a pivotal technical role in the rollout of the Premier Agent “Concierge” platform, a system that fundamentally shifted Zillow’s business model from passive lead generation to high-quality, live agent-buyer connections.

Key contributions included: • Designing service orchestration to route qualified buyers to available agents in real time • Supporting live handoffs between consumers, concierge staff, and agents • Ensuring reliability and low latency for revenue-critical interactions • Instrumentation to track lead quality, conversion rates, and engagement outcomes

This platform materially increased the value of leads and strengthened agent trust in the marketplace.

My Agent Platform Optimization & Retention Impact

I also led technical optimization efforts on the “My Agent” platform, focusing on performance, reliability, and agent experience for Zillow’s highest-value customers.

Improvements included: • Performance tuning of core workflows used by top-spending agents • Enhancements to reliability and responsiveness under heavy usage • Better integration between communication services and agent-facing tools
